Request for Information (RFI)

A request for information (RFI) is a document created by buy-side companies to obtain service and resource capability information from supply-side companies. The document does not request methodology or pricing information but provides an executive summary of the operation(s) to be outsourced and detailed information on their specific capabilities. Although the RFI is the least frequently used proposal document (of RFI, RFP and RFQ), this three-to-five-page document is essential to companies that are unfamiliar with outsourcing supply companies.
