Learning Organizations

Learning organizations are companies which practice behaviors that foster continuous learning by their employees and constituents, allowing the organization to continuously transform itself. The term was popularized in the 1990s through the work of Dr. Peter Senge and his book, “The Fifth Discipline, the Art and Practice of a Learning Organization.” The five disciplines, or practices of a learning organization are: systems thinking, personal mastery, mental models, shared visions, and team learning. The “Learning Organization” title is also given to business units responsible for managing training within an enterprise.
