The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) is a European Union regulation aimed at protecting EU citizens’ privacy and strengthening organizations’ accountability and governance of data. Beginning May 25, 2018, organizations must comply with the regulation, or they will be fined up to €20 million, or 4% of their worldwide annual revenue. GDPR applies to all data collected by organizations, including learner data stored in learning management systems or other platforms.
