A front-line worker is an employee who works directly with the people his or her organization serves. First responders, teachers, health care workers, care givers, grocery and retail workers, hospitality workers and restaurant workers are all considered front-line workers, because they work directly with people whether they’re students, patients or customers.  Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, certain front-line workers were also referred to as “essential workers,” because their work was critical in meeting the demand for health care, education, safety and nutrition during the pandemic.
