Formal learning refers to a learning program in which the goals and objectives are defined by the training department, instructional designer and/or instructor and that takes place within a planned setting, like a classroom or online. Formal learning is also known as structured learning or synchronous learning. Examples of formal learning include classroom instruction, web-based training, remote labs, eLearning, workshops, seminars and webinars.
