Continuing medical education (CME) is a term that refers to ongoing education and retraining for licensed medical professionals to stay abreast of industry developments and new technologies and to maintain or improve their practice competencies. Courses are typically taught by experts in particular fields or practice areas and can be delivered in a variety of formats and settings.

CME programs for physicians are regulated in the United States by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). In Canada, the certification programs are provided by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
